Monika Butke
Hello everyone, my name is Monika Butke. I’ve recently moved here from Queens, NYC, where I was a Residential Psychologist with YAI-National Institute for People with Disabilities for almost five years. I worked with dual diagnosis individuals with a wide range of disorders, and helped them to learn basic ADL skills, budgeting/money management, coping skills, social skills, leisure skills, behavior management, community inclusion, and medication management. While living in NY, I also worked as an Addictions Counselor in both inpatient/outpatient programs at hospitals and within the Correctional Dept. of NJ.
I received my Bachelor’s at the Ohio State University in Criminology and Psychology, and worked as an Unbonded Officer for over two years. After graduation, I moved back to my native Flushing, NY (the biggest Chinatown on the East Coast!) and pursued my Master’s degree at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I graduated in 2005 with an MA in Forensic Psychology and a concentration in Substance Abuse. I eventually received my CASAC and used it for about 1-2 years before working with YAI-NIPD.
I have a wide range of random interests and hobbies, such as professional violinist, wicked Poker player, Quiz-Game creator, Appalachian Trail hiker/camper, Barnes & Nobles addict, goofy dancer, nature lover, and Euchre champion!
Thanks,
Monika
